SIGNIFICANCE Damdama Sahib: Any place sanctified by the stay of a Guru is called Damdama Sahib. Damdama means “to take rest”. There are many Gurdwaras by this name. But, Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo near Bhatinda has been given the status of a Takhat. Guru Gobind Singh after fighting all his battles had lived here for about a year between AD 1705 and 1706. Its
significance comes from the fact that Guru Gobind Singh Ji prepared the final
edition of Adi Granth (also known as ‘Pothi Sahib’) in 1705 AD. Bhai
Mani Singh inscribed (hand writing) the Hymns during the compilation work . The Dhir-Maliye (DIr
m~lIAY; Gurus own family members) in possession of the Adi Granth refused
to hand it over to Guru Ji and challenged him that if he was the true Guru, he
should write the Adi Granth himself. Guru Ji then made the dictation to Bhai
Mani Singh through his mental power. He also added the Shabads (Hymns) composed
by the 9th Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and one Salok (Hymn) from his own
composition. The
final version, which is the authorised version in use at present, has 1430 pages
& contains a total of 5867 shabads in 31 Raags. Extra Raag called "Jaijawanti"
(jYjwvMqI) composed by Guru
Tegh Bahadur Ji was added. Original edition composed by the 5th Guru,
Guru Arjan Dev Ji had 975 pages containing 5751 Shabads (Hymns) written in 30
Raags. Guru Gobind Singh Ji entrusted Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib at Hazoor Sahib in 1708 AD. |
