Amrit (Immortal Nectar)
Amrit
litrally means Immortal, which refers to Immortal God i.e. Immortal Waheguru.
What makes a person immortal is the meditation upon Immortal Waheguru as
is clearly mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib (Page 616) that as follows:
soriT
mhlw 5 ] ... AMimRq nwmu prmysru
qyrw jo ismrY so jIvY ] (pMnw
616)
Therefore,
the ‘Amrit’ is the meditation upon the Immortal Waheguru’s virtues and
recitation of the word “Waheguru” or Gurbani. Amrit is also referred to as
“Naam-Dan”
or “Spiritual Bliss”. Note that Guru
Granth Sahib contains virtues of the
Immortal Waheguru and therefore is source of Amrit. (Also,
see later section titled as “Guru Today and
Amrit”)
By definition, Guru means spiritual
teacher. The Gurus were
Divine Conscious (“Brahm-Giyanis”) who possessed Divine Spiritual knowledge
and had realised Waheguru. It is revealed on page 273/274 of Guru Granth Sahib
that “Divine Conscious owns the entire creation and is himself the Formless
Lord”.

The only source of Amrit is
the Guru
as clarified by 3rd Guru Amar Das Ji’s composition in Raag RAMKALI
on page 918 Guru Granth Sahib that “;
....... The spiritual persons and the silent sages search for the Immortal
(Ambrosial) Nectar; this Amrit is only obtained from the Guru. This Amrit is
obtained, when the Guru grants His Grace; The Guru enshrines the True Lord
within the mind of the devotee”
