SIKH CODE OF CONDUCT

Sikh Code Of Conduct (Reht) consists of the following four forbidden acts [referred to as four Ku-rehtan (deadly sins)] and some mandatory and advisory instructions as follows:

Four Forbidden Acts

* Must not cut hair: Cutting hair is interfering in God’s will. Keeping hair asserts faith in God's creation & wisdom. Hairs also provide necessary energy/protection to the brain & body for mental & spiritual development.

* Should not eat meat as a gesture of kindness towards animals & birds. Lately, many people have been forced to be vegetarians following many life-threatening diseases resulting from eating meat. Sikhs can eat meat in extreme emergency for the survival reasons but eating of halal or ritually slaughtered (Kosher) meat (prepared by bleeding the animal or bird slowly to death) is totally prohibited.

*  Must not use Tobacco/ Drugs/ Intoxicants those cause life threatening diseases and can result in the disputes & criminal acts following their consumption.

*  Must not indulge in adultery i.e. for a man to treat other women as his daughters,  sisters and mothers according to the age. The same applies to women. This will save one from STDs (Sexually transmitted Diseases such as known disease like AIDS and many unknown diseases). It will also help to overcome today’s social problems and the mental agony for the certain individuals (single parents, divorcees...etc.)

*  Kirat Karni : Must earn HONEST and TRUTHFUL living.

*  Wand Chhakna : Must share money, food, love & time with needy. Contributing a minimum of 10% (daswand) of the earnings/resources was advised by the Gurus.
